Youth speaks

Youths Speaks

Bridgewater entered a Youth Speaks competition. Youth Speaks is a competition where a team writes a speech putting across a point or an opinion. The competition is held by the Rotary Club in Berkhamsted. There are various rounds in Youth Speaks; the first round is just within the local area. The second round was between the winners of the first round in all of Hertfordshire. This year Mrs Boemer, who is Head of English, was limited to five teams because each year we just keep getting better and whipping the floor!!! The teams consisted of three people; the chairman, the main speaker and the proposer of the vote of thanks. The teams started preparing for Youth Speaks in October. They were working hard since then at most lunchtimes writing and rehearsing.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid

Diary of a Wimpy Kid- these are, in my eyes, some of the best books ever!!! People over the age of 10 might not even consider picking up these books but I did and I haven’t regretted it. They are a fantasic, funny read that will keep you entertained for hours. They are easy to read with loads of small comical drawings and just when you think that Greg Heffley’s (main character) life can’t get anymore ridiculous, it does!!!! There are in total 6 books to this series; Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Rodrick Rules, The Last Straw, Dog Days, The Ugly Truth, the Do-It-Yourself  book and the new book; Cabin Fever.

The books have now been made into a major motion picture staring Zachary Gordon.

During the holidays I would deffinatley recommend these books to adults and children alike for and amusing read.

On Thursday this week, Bridgewater will be holding their annual summer concert.  There will be performances from the Band, Junior Orchestra, Senior orchestra, Bridgewater Boys and the school choir.  It is always an exiting event as all children practise hard at their instruments and learning their words for the show.  Practises will be during the day with the big performance in the evening.

Pieces performed by the pupils include; Land of Hope and Glory, My Fair Lady, The  Water Music, Minka Minka, A London Medley and a surprise later to be revealed by the Bridgewater Boys.  All pupils in every year are invited to be in the choir and those who play instruments inside of school form the Band, Junior Orchestra and the Senior Orchestra.  Bridgewater offers a large range of instruments that you can learn such as; clarinet, flute, drums, trumpet, saxophone and many more.

We will give a review after the show, which we are sure will be amazing!  Come back soon…….!

Every concert Bridgewater holds always has a little bit of magic that we like to call Bridewater Boys!!! Bridgewater Boys is a Boy Band that is formed by our head of hummanities and our head of  music. The Bridgewater Boys then learn a song and dress up and peform it at the concert. I have already peformed “Its raining men” as a Bridgewater Boy and I can tell you it was one of the most fun moments of my life. The look of shock on the audiences faces are always priceless!

With the Year 8 production of Oliver drawing ever closer it’s all hands on deck to make this the best show ever! The background plays a main part (along with the actors!) to lay the scence. Our fantastic art teacher has started to make the props and scenery, however, volunteers are running low. We have also hit a wall and cannot think of rooms and backgrounds to paint. Please, if you have any ideas feel free to tell us at the bottom of this article.

Every year, yr8 has revealed their hidden talents in an amazing end of year production.  This year,  they are doing a well known classic, OLIVER! There has been a lot of hard work put into auditions from everyone, but finally the parts have been cast with Anna and Ellie-Rose as Nancy, Holly and Max as Oliver and Beth and Sam as the Artful Dodger. There has been various lunch-time and after school practises and OLIVER is well on it’s way!

Check back for the next update.
